V1 Chapter 18: Liuli Sword, You Betrayed Me!

Lin Mo appreciated the waiter’s thoughtful gesture, but he wasn’t going to read too much into it.

Just because they were in the same room didn’t mean he could do anything with these girls.

Besides, using force was technically an option, but was Lin Mo the type of person who would do that?

Of course not.

In his past life, he was a law-abiding citizen who respected morals and boundaries.

More importantly—there was a hidden time bomb in that group.

He wasn’t about to take any risks. What if he ended up sword-clashing with the wrong person?

“Only two ‘Heaven’ rooms left?” Xia He asked again, glancing at the waiter.

“Yes, only two.”

The waiter remained expressionless, clearly an expert at this kind of setup.

“What about the ‘Earth’ rooms?” Xia He pressed further.

“None left either!”

Xia He frowned. “Didn’t you just say there were some?”

The waiter gave an apologetic smile. “Ah, that was my mistake. But there is still one ‘Human’ room available!”

Xia He immediately asked the waiter to show her the Human-grade room.

After inspecting it, she walked out with a look of absolute disgust.

“Senior Brother,” Xia He said, “since there are only two ‘Heaven’ rooms left, I’ll share one with Qu Ruoyan, and the twin sisters can take the other. No problem, right?”

She then added with emphasis, “Senior Brother wouldn’t seriously consider sharing a room with us, would he?”

Lin Mo had no objections.

He didn’t care where he stayed.

“Umm…”

Xie Zhiqu seemed hesitant to say something, but Xie Zhi’an cut her off.

“Zhiqu, you’re not suggesting sharing a room with Senior Brother, are you? Or are you saying you want me to stay with him instead?”

The moment she said that, Xie Zhiqu’s face turned beet red, and she frantically waved her hands in denial.

Lin Mo couldn’t help but chuckle.

This pair of sisters was truly entertaining to watch.

Once the junior sisters settled into their rooms, Lin Mo stayed behind to speak with the waiter.

“Sigh… Young master, why don’t you understand my intentions?”

The waiter let out a deep sigh, looking as if he was heartbroken over Lin Mo’s wasted opportunity.

“It’s not that I don’t understand,” Lin Mo laughed, tossing the waiter a few lower-grade spirit stones.

“They’re my junior sisters.”

The waiter’s eyes lit up in delight as he caught the spirit stones.

“Ahh! So you’re a cultivator! My mistake, my mistake!”

When the waiter finally led Lin Mo to his room, he didn’t take him to the Human-grade one that Xia He had inspected earlier.

“Wait… this isn’t the same room?” Lin Mo asked, raising an eyebrow.

The waiter gave a knowing smile.

“Sir, with your status, how could you possibly stay in a room like that?”

Then he winked. “You understand what I mean, right?”

Lin Mo, of course, understood perfectly.

“Esteemed guest, do you need anything else for your room? I can have it arranged immediately,” the waiter offered eagerly.

“No, that won’t be necessary. But I do have a few questions for you,” Lin Mo said.

“Of course! I’ll answer whatever I can,” the waiter assured him.

Lin Mo then inquired about the ghostly disturbances in Daliang City.

The waiter’s face turned serious, and he began explaining.

“Ah, this… I’ve heard quite a bit about it from guests staying at the inn. It all started a few months ago. There was a wealthy landowner, Master Ding, whose only daughter disappeared while out shopping.”

“Master Ding spent a fortune searching for her, and seven days later, they finally found her body in the mountains outside Daliang City.”

“You wouldn’t believe it, sir—when they found her, her clothes were tattered, and parts of her flesh had been eaten by wild animals. As for the cause of death, the coroner confirmed that before she died, she had suffered at the hands of multiple men…”

The waiter paused, lowering his voice as if afraid someone might overhear.

“After that incident, Master Ding changed completely. He stopped leaving his house, became cruel and violent, and even maimed several of his own servants.”

Lin Mo frowned. “And how does this relate to the ghost attacks?”

“Ah, sir, it’s directly connected!” The waiter leaned in closer, lowering his voice further.

“Rumor has it that the ghost plaguing Daliang City is none other than Master Ding’s daughter, who came back from the dead seeking vengeance.”

“And here’s the strange part—every victim who has died recently shares one thing in common: they are all young, talented scholars, men of poetry and literature.”

Lin Mo tapped his fingers on the table, contemplating the information.

“Because of this, the upcoming ‘Scholars’ Gathering’ at Jiangyue Pavilion will likely have fewer participants than usual.”

The waiter sighed dramatically.

“Then again, sir, some may still take the risk. After all, whoever wins the tournament gets to spend a night with the pavilion’s mistress!”

“Many men have spent fortunes just to speak with her, and some of them were cultivators like you!”

The mere mention of the Jiangyue Pavilion mistress made the waiter’s expression turn dreamy and lovestruck.

Lin Mo, however, remained unimpressed.

He had seen plenty of beauties in his life.

Even in his past life, during an era of widespread information and technology, he had seen countless stunning women online.

Whether they were genuine or enhanced, it didn’t really matter.

After the waiter excused himself, Lin Mo reached into his storage ring and pulled out his Liuli Sword.

“Ahhhh! I was suffocating in there!”

“You’re such a bad person! You finally decided to let me out!”

“I already told you—I was born to serve my mistress, Shiyao! Even if you have my body, you’ll never have my heart!”

Lin Mo’s forehead twitched in irritation.

Ever since he had obtained this sword, he had kept it inside his storage ring.

And for good reason—

It was far too noisy.

It was like having a constantly beeping pager that wouldn’t shut up.

Sure enough, the moment he took it out, it started rambling nonstop.

“If you don’t want to experience what it’s like to be locked in a latrine, I suggest you shut up.”

That shut the sword up immediately.

Lin Mo exhaled, then said, “I have some questions. Answer them properly.”

“Can you sense the presence of ghostly entities nearby?”

The sword remained silent.

Lin Mo immediately moved to throw it toward the latrine.

“Ahhh! You monster! First, you tell me to be quiet, and now you threaten to throw me into a toilet?!”

The Liuli Sword wailed like a child, its voice filled with indignation.

Why was it so difficult to communicate with this thing?!

Lin Mo rubbed his temples. “Let me say it again—unless it’s important, don’t talk. Only answer when I ask you a question. Understand?”

The sword sniffled and mumbled, “Understood…”

“Good. Now, answer my question.”

The sword responded obediently, “Yes, I can sense ghostly entities nearby.”

“How far can you detect them?”

“Within a two-mile radius.”

Lin Mo had a “just as I expected” expression.

As a late-stage Foundation Establishment cultivator, his divine sense could only extend to a hundred meters at most.

But since sword spirits were naturally spectral beings, their perception abilities were far superior to his own.

“If you don’t want to be locked in the storage ring again, notify me immediately when you detect any ghostly presence!”

Lin Mo figured it would be more convenient to keep the Liuli Sword by his side for this task.

The Liuli Sword was equally unwilling to return to the storage ring.

“I already sense something!”

That fast?!

Lin Mo was slightly surprised.

Following the sword’s guidance, he stepped outside, took a few turns, and eventually stopped in front of a guestroom.

Lin Mo frowned.

Wasn’t this Xie Zhi’an and Xie Zhiqu’s room?

The sword spirit confirmed with certainty, “It’s here. Absolutely no mistake!”

From inside the room, there were soft rustling sounds.

Lin Mo couldn’t hear clearly, but he distinctly picked up Xie Zhiqu’s pained murmurs.

Without any more hesitation, Lin Mo ignored common courtesy and slammed the door open with a burst of spiritual energy.

“Junior Sister, are you alrig—”

Before he could finish his sentence, he froze in place at the scene before him.

The fragrant, intoxicating sight on the bed made his mind blank out completely.
