So, what exactly was happening inside this room?
On the redwood bed, Xie Zhi’an was straddling Xie Zhiqu, her hands tugging aggressively at her younger sister’s collar.
No—to be more precise, the collar had already been half torn away, exposing her smooth, fair shoulders, delicate as porcelain.
Lin Mo’s gaze instinctively lowered.
And then…
Wait.
Something was off.
Too flat.
Way too flat.
Lin Mo wasn’t exactly a righteous gentleman, so since he had already seen it, he might as well take a closer look.
Meanwhile, Xie Zhiqu’s flushed face had turned completely crimson, like a heated iron ball, with visible steam practically rising from her skin.
In a panicked daze, she buried herself under the covers.
“Senior Brother, what’s the meaning of this?”
Xie Zhi’an’s face darkened.
No one would be happy having their ‘moment of joy’ interrupted.
“Ahem.”
Lin Mo awkwardly coughed, secretly communicating with the Liuli Sword.
You better find me that ghost, or you’ll be spending the rest of your days in filth.
And I mean filth from a man’s latrine.
“I’m not lying! Look at the corner of the bed!” The Liuli Sword Spirit’s voice was full of certainty.
Lin Mo was puzzled.
He had scanned the room with his divine sense earlier and hadn’t detected anything unusual.
But at this point, he had no choice but to go along with it.
“Junior Sister, would you believe me if I said I was here to catch a ghost?”
Xie Zhi’an’s voice turned even colder.
“Senior Brother, you better actually be here to catch a ghost.”
Ignoring her glare, Lin Mo walked toward the bedpost.
He then unleashed his spiritual energy, spreading it throughout the entire room.
If a ghost was hiding here, it would have no choice but to reveal itself!
Suddenly, from the corner of the bed, a wisp of blue spirit residue flickered, as if frightened, before darting out the door.
Everyone in the room saw it clearly.
Xie Zhi’an grabbed her sword from beside the bed, her voice filled with disbelief.
“Senior Brother, don’t tell me… that’s the ‘ghost’ you were talking about?”
That wasn’t even a proper ghost—just a remnant soul fragment, barely possessing any consciousness.
It didn’t even qualify as a complete spirit, let alone a vengeful ghost.
Lin Mo knew this.
Xie Zhi’an knew this.
Lin Mo cleared his throat.
“Well, Junior Sister, you saw it yourself. Something unclean was in your room, after all!”
After dropping that line, he turned and ran.
This place was no longer safe!
As he rushed out, he tried to close the door behind him—but it wouldn’t budge.
Right.
He had blasted it open earlier.
Now, it was completely broken and wouldn’t close properly no matter what he did.
In the end, Lin Mo had no choice but to retreat in defeat, heading back to his own room.
The moment he stepped inside, he slammed the Liuli Sword onto the table and glared at it furiously.
“Are you messing with me?!”
The sword spirit innocently protested.
“Xiao Li didn’t do anything wrong!”
“You yourself said that spirit residue counts as an unclean presence! Xiao Li was just following your orders!”
The Liuli Sword Spirit’s reasoning was solid.
But Lin Mo wasn’t convinced.
He was certain that this troublesome sword had understood his intent but had deliberately caused this mess to prank him.
Unfortunately, he had no way to prove it.
“Fine. This round goes to you.”
The Liuli Sword Spirit seemed extremely pleased, letting out a content hum after hearing Lin Mo admit defeat.
“Now, let me clarify my request again,” Lin Mo said, rubbing his temples.
“If you detect a truly strong ghostly presence—one where the resentment has solidified into tangible form— then you can tell me its location.”
“Ohhh, I see! You should’ve explained that more clearly from the start!”
Lin Mo sighed. “So? Do you actually know where one is?”
“Nope!!!”
Lin Mo’s forehead twitched violently.
This damn sword…
And so, the Liuli Sword was promptly tossed into the fireplace for “purification.”
“You big bully! It’s hot! Hot! HOT!”
“I just thought you were getting a little dusty, so I’m giving you a nice cleaning.”
Lin Mo’s smile was kind and gentle.
Eventually, after a dozen rounds of “high-temperature disinfection,” the Liuli Sword Spirit’s wailing finally subsided.
The next Morning, each of the junior sisters woke up in different moods.
Xie Zhi’an’s resentment toward Lin Mo was practically tangible.
Meanwhile, Xie Zhiqu couldn’t even look at him without turning bright red.
“That was the best sleep I’ve had in ages!”
Qu Ruoyan stretched her arms, looking refreshed and well-rested.
“Oh, you had a great time, huh?!”
Xia He glared at her, dark circles under her eyes, looking utterly exhausted.
“You kept talking in your sleep all night—listing off dish names! How was I supposed to sleep?!”
“Oh no! I’m so sorry, Xiaxia!”
Qu Ruoyan scratched her head awkwardly.
“I’ve had a habit of calling out food names in my sleep since I was a kid!”
“Then why didn’t you tell me that BEFORE we shared a room?!”
Xia He looked completely defeated.
After Breakfast, Lin Mo decided it was time to visit Landowner Ding’s residence.
After getting directions from the waiter, the group set off immediately.
Along the way, Xia He noticed something odd—the atmosphere between Lin Mo and the Xie sisters seemed unusually tense.
“What’s up with you?”
Xia He patted Xie Zhi’an’s shoulder, her curiosity piqued.
“You look like you want to kill him.”
“Nothing much. Just really annoyed by Senior Brother Lin, that’s all.”
Xie Zhi’an wasn’t about to explain last night’s events.
“Oh? So we have the same opinion! I can’t stand him either!”
Xia He immediately felt a sense of camaraderie and quickly bonded with Xie Zhi’an.
Before long, the two were chatting like old friends, taking turns badmouthing Lin Mo.
Lin Mo didn’t care at all.
Once this training mission ended, he had no plans to stay in contact with this troublesome group of junior sisters.
Meanwhile, Qu Ruoyan happily munched on a meat bun, completely oblivious.
“I think Senior Brother Lin is really nice!”
Lin Mo was a little surprised.
He hadn’t expected to have a little angel in this group.
Xia He, however, frowned in confusion.
“What’s so nice about him?”
She gave Lin Mo a suspicious glance.
“What did he do to brainwash you?”
Qu Ruoyan’s eyes sparkled as she smiled brightly.
“He bought me meat buns yesterday! And at the inn, he let me eat until I was full!”
Just mentioning food made her look so content and happy.
Xia He rolled her eyes.
“Ugh, you’re so easily bought. Fine, for the next few days, whatever food you want, I’ll buy it for you!”
Qu Ruoyan’s eyes lit up instantly.
She grabbed Xia He’s hands, looking at her with deep sincerity.
“Xiaxia, you’re such a good person!”
Xia He smirked and glanced at Lin Mo smugly.
“See? Now do you still think he’s nice?”
Without hesitation, Qu Ruoyan nodded.
“Xiaxia and Senior Brother Lin are BOTH good people!”
Lin Mo chuckled to himself.
At least one of them wasn’t completely against him.
This airheaded junior sister was actually kind of adorable.
Her simple-minded gratitude and loyalty were far better than that of his former junior sister, whom he had raised from childhood.
Xia He sighed, shaking her head.
She hadn’t expected Qu Ruoyan to be this pure-hearted.
Seeing such an innocent and kind girl, Xia He lost interest in trying to sway her and decided not to say anything further.
Just as the group neared Ding Manor, a commotion erupted nearby.
Turning their heads, they saw a scar-faced man, his expression fierce and menacing, glaring down at an elderly vendor with a head full of white hair.
“I’m asking you one last time—are you paying this month’s rent or not?! You still wanna keep your business?!”
The old vendor bowed his head humbly, his voice trembling with age.
“Master Tang, please, just give this old man a few more days. I promise I’ll have the rent ready soon.”
As he spoke, the vendor wrapped up a few bundles of vegetables and offered them to the scar-faced man.
“Here, Master Tang, please take these as a token.”
“What the hell do I need your damn weeds for?!”
With one violent sweep of his arm, the thug sent the vegetables flying across the street.
The old vendor silently knelt down, gathering the scattered vegetables one by one.
Meanwhile, the other nearby vendors simply watched, unmoved.
Clearly, they had seen this happen countless times before and had no intention of getting involved.
Lin Mo glanced at his four junior sisters, noting the anger burning in their eyes.
So, he kindly reminded them:
“Not everything is as simple as it looks.”
“Blindly helping someone without understanding the situation can sometimes do more harm than good.”
His words, of course, went completely unheard.
“Bullying an old man? How shameless can you be?!”
With a furious shout, Xia He led the charge, storming toward the scar-faced thug, her junior sisters following right behind her.
…Well, here we go.
Lin Mo sighed inwardly.
These girls never listen.
