V2 Chapter 26: Letting Qu Ruyan eat a little less—Lin Mo is already doing his best

Qu Ruyan’s eyes sparkled as she stared straight at the person in front of her. Lin Mo was a little surprised; his appearance had changed quite a bit, yet this girl had recognized him at a glance.

And instead of first doubting whether he was really himself, this girl’s first suspicion was about his gender.

While Lin Mo was still dazed, Qu Ruyan had already walked right up to him.

She reached out and poked that unbelievable pair of big white rabbits. “Hey, hey, hey, they’re actually all soft and bouncy.”

Lin Mo’s face darkened. He grabbed Qu Ruyan’s hand. “Your hand’s itching, is it?”

Stars shone in Qu Ruyan’s eyes. “Really? Really? Is this for real?”

Her senior brother had actually turned into a senior sister?

Lin Mo instinctively ignored the question. At that moment, the Calamity-Serpent chief he had first blasted away flew back.

The Calamity-Serpent chief narrowed his golden serpent eyes, warily sizing up the woman who had suddenly appeared. “Who are you?”

From her clothes, her aura, her looks—everything told him this woman was anything but ordinary. He didn’t dare strike rashly now.

Qu Ruyan tugged on the hem of Lin Mo’s skirt. “Senior Brother, I want candy!”

Ever since they parted, she hadn’t had candy for a very, very long time. She’d been craving it like crazy.

Lin Mo was speechless, but he still took out some candy he’d drawn from the system and handed it to her.

Then he looked at the snaky-faced man in front of him. “You heard her — she calls me Senior Brother.”

By now, Kun Yu had finished exchanging information with the leader of the Devouring Clan. The Devouring Clan’s leader hadn’t expected that this suddenly appearing woman actually possessed a bloodline capable of suppressing the current leader of the Kun-Kun clan.

There was now a hint of respect in his gaze toward Lin Mo.

The leader of the Calamity-Serpent Clan noticed this as well and turned his eyes to Kun Yu. “You’re the little brat of the Kun-Kun clan?”

Kun Yu stepped forward politely and greeted him.

“So, this woman is one of your clan?” the Calamity-Serpent Clan Leader asked.

Kun Yu said, “She’s not from our clan…”

Good. If the Kun-Kun clan were to interfere on top of everything, he really would have no way to deal with this girl who had eaten so many of his clansmen.

The Calamity-Serpent Clan Leader had just breathed a sigh of relief when Kun Yu added, “She’s a noble phoenix. We’re just a bunch of wild chickens compared to her.”

The Calamity-Serpent Clan Leader froze. “A phoenix?”

Kun Yu nodded. “Yes. Right now, our entire Kun-Kun clan follows her orders.”

Lin Mo’s face was blank with confusion. Since when?

Kun Yu quietly said to Lin Mo, “Young Master, my mother really does mean it. She told me so in private.”

Lin Mo snapped back to himself. He could sense that Kun Yu’s cultivation was at least at the Body Integration stage.

And a Body Integration stage great demon was willing to submit to him on the basis of bloodline alone, despite having just met him. It seemed that among the Yao, bloodline mattered even more than strength.

“Phoenix, huh?” Qu Ruyan looked at Lin Mo curiously. “Senior Brother, you’re not huma—”

Before she could finish, a giant lollipop was shoved into her mouth.

To keep Qu Ruyan from slipping up, Lin Mo used the constraints of the master–servant contract and issued a command: “You are not allowed to reveal anything about me.”

The order was compulsory. Even if Qu Ruyan got careless and was about to blurt something out, the contract would clamp her mouth shut in time.

Sure enough, after receiving the order, Qu Ruyan’s eyes were full of stifled frustration.

She still wanted to keep asking questions, but her mouth wouldn’t obey her, and she could only mumble around the lollipop, drooling.

The Calamity-Serpent Clan Leader had caught her earlier words. “You just said you’re not human?”

Lin Mo relaxed his shoulders. “Is there a problem?”

He was a demon now; he really wasn’t human.

The Calamity-Serpent Clan Leader looked to Kun Yu. “So your Kun-Kun clan intends to shield this girl who’s eaten tens of thousands of my clansmen?”

Kun Yu pointed at Lin Mo. “You’ll have to ask her. Her words represent my mother’s will.”

The Calamity-Serpent Clan Leader didn’t press further.

He could see that this suddenly appearing woman and Qu Ruyan were very close.

And that put him in a bind.

If the two great clans went to war, he had no chance of winning on the surface.

But if they didn’t fight, sooner or later this girl would eat his clansmen down to the bones. In this situation, he was caught between a rock and a hard place.

Qu Ruyan, for her part, dropped the topic of whether Lin Mo was human. In her eyes, eating was more important. She stared at the Calamity-Serpent Clan Leader, drooling openly. “Senior Brother, I really want to eat roasted flood-dragon meat.”

The Calamity-Serpent Clan Leader instinctively took two steps back. He could feel that Qu Ruyan was genuinely hungry for his flesh! Even though his cultivation was higher than hers, being treated as food by a crazy girl like this was downright chilling.

Lin Mo was helpless. Eating low-intelligence monster beasts was one thing, but eating beasts that could take human form always felt… off.

Lin Mo looked at Qu Ruyan, baffled. “Why are you so obsessed with snake meat and dragon meat?”

Qu Ruyan spoke with a hint of grievance. “Mainly because I didn’t have any candy. Whenever I eat that meat, it makes me think of you, Senior Brother.”

At that, all the Yao present turned their eyes to Lin Mo.

Kun Yu stepped forward and asked, “Young Master, is it you who got this girl so fond of snake and dragon meat?”

The implication was obvious: this whole battle was essentially Lin Mo’s fault.

Lin Mo felt awkward. If he’d known it would turn out like this, he never would have let this girl ‘sample’ flood-dragon meat back in the Yao-clan secret realm.

He could only smooth things over, turning to the Calamity-Serpent Clan Leader. “From now on, I’ll make this girl watch her mouth. How about we drop it here?”

The Calamity-Serpent Clan Leader couldn’t swallow his pride. “Forget my clansmen for the moment—how can I let my grandfather’s blood feud go?”

Lin Mo said, “That must be a misunderstanding. Back then, this girl and I were in the Human Realm. We visited a senior’s estate, and inside there was a Yao-clan secret realm. There was a black flood dragon there.”

“He was only at the Nascent Soul stage. That shouldn’t have been your grandfather, right?”

The Calamity-Serpent Clan Leader fell silent for a moment. His grandfather’s cultivation had been solidly at the Body Integration realm. Maybe it really was a misunderstanding…

Seeing the Calamity-Serpent Clan Leader’s expression ease a little, Lin Mo went on, “Starting a war won’t do you any good. It could very well mean the immediate destruction of your clan. What the Yao need most right now is unity. You’d better think carefully about the consequences.”

The Calamity-Serpent Clan Leader drew in a breath. “Can you really keep this girl in check?”

Lin Mo nodded. “Naturally, that won’t be a problem.”

As he spoke, he beckoned Qu Ruyan over.

Qu Ruyan wasn’t completely brainless. She said to the Calamity-Serpent Clan Leader, “Even though I really crave your body, as long as Senior Brother’s here, I can eat fewer of your clansmen in the future.”

Cold sweat broke out on the Calamity-Serpent Clan Leader’s forehead. “Eating fewer is… acceptable.”

As long as she didn’t eat his clan to extinction, he’d just turn a blind eye and pretend not to see.
