V1 Chapter 16: Daliang City

After one incense stick’s time, the group stood neatly in front of Lin Mo.

Yep, he had definitely overthought things.

The four sets of men’s clothing on his four junior sisters each had their own unique charm.

But in the end, he still couldn’t tell which one was actually the hidden junior brother.

At a glance, all four of them still looked like girls dressed as boys.

The only one who barely passed as a young man was Xia He.

Her facial features held a hint of sharpness, giving her a bit of a heroic air—a passable young noble, at least.

But her gestures and movements still carried a natural femininity, making her look more delicate than convincing.

Meanwhile, the airheaded Qu Ruoyan was too carefree, making her movements less overtly feminine, which… ironically made her more convincing than Xia He.

As for the Xie twins…

Xie Zhi’an was clearly a protective older sister, always shielding and caring for her younger twin, Xie Zhiqu.

Meanwhile, Xie Zhiqu was shy and timid, giving off the vibe of a soft, clingy little kitten.

Xia He, seemingly satisfied with her new appearance, smugly glanced at Lin Mo.

“So? Don’t I look more dashing than you in men’s clothing?”

Lin Mo remained speechless, too lazy to reply.

But at that moment, Qu Ruoyan raised a critical question.

“Senior Brother, why do these clothes fit me so perfectly? It’s so weird!”

The moment she said that, the other three immediately turned their suspicious gazes toward Lin Mo.

Xia He’s expression grew wary.

“Yeah, how do you know our sizes?”

Even the normally quiet Xie Zhi’an spoke up.

“Senior Brother, I find it strange too. The four of us all have different measurements—how do you just happen to have four perfectly fitting sets?”

And this—

Was exactly why Lin Mo hated being asked ‘why.’

At that moment, Qu Ruoyan seemed to realize her mistake and quickly covered her mouth again.

Since things had already escalated, Lin Mo had to think fast.

Without a word, he pulled out a roll of fabric from his storage ring.

Then, with freshly exchanged tailoring tools from the system, he began working in front of them.

At first, the four junior sisters watched with skepticism.

Then, as they saw the fabric gradually take shape, their expressions shifted from doubt to shock.

By the time Lin Mo had finished crafting a simple white robe, the four were completely stunned.

“Whoa! I had no idea Senior Brother was so skilled! You can even make clothes?!”

Qu Ruoyan gasped in amazement.

The Xie twins nodded vigorously in agreement.

Xia He, however, scoffed, folding her arms.

“It’s ugly.”

Despite her words, she clearly looked at Lin Mo with newfound respect.

Lin Mo, of course, had never sewn before in his life.

But thanks to one of his recent lottery pulls, his “Sewing” skill had been raised from zero to Level 2.

Though his craftsmanship was far from expert, and the final product was full of imperfections, it was good enough to fool these four complete beginners.

And that was all that mattered.

The training destination this time was Daliang City.

Recently, low-level ghostly creatures had been causing trouble in the city, resulting in the deaths of several commoners.

Their mission was to eliminate these ghosts.

The difficulty wasn’t particularly high, so Lin Mo wasn’t worried about handling it.

Daliang City was a three-day journey from Qingling Sect.

The trip passed without incident, and soon, they were nearing the city’s outskirts.

Lin Mo turned to his junior sisters and reminded them:

“As I said before—stay close, no wandering off. Before doing anything, report to me first.”

The girls all readily agreed.

But the moment they entered the city, their restraint completely vanished.

The streets stretched as far as the eye could see, lined with countless stalls selling all kinds of goods—

Food, toys, jewelry, trinkets, and more.

For these young noble ladies, who had been strictly managed in their family estates, the bustling city scene was too much to resist.

They had only been sect disciples for a year, still in the Qi Refining stage, and rarely had opportunities to go out and play.

So the moment they saw the lively marketplace, they completely forgot the promise they had just made to Lin Mo.

Fortunately, none of them had run too far.

They were still within Lin Mo’s line of sight.

At a nearby steamed bun stall, Qu Ruoyan stood there, eyes locked onto the steaming hot buns, swallowing her saliva.

The vendor greeted her warmly. “Young master, fresh, piping-hot meat buns! Want to buy some?”

“Yes!”

“Three copper coins each. How many would you like?”

Without hesitation, Qu Ruoyan blurted out—

“Ten!”

“Got it!”

The vendor quickly split the buns into two portions and handed them over.

Qu Ruoyan eagerly grabbed the buns and started eating on the spot.

One bun.

Two buns.

In less than half an incense stick’s time, she had eaten all of them.

Not only was the vendor stunned, but even Lin Mo, watching from a distance, was utterly speechless.

How did her stomach fit ten whole meat buns?!

The vendor let out a chuckle, rubbing his hands together.

“Young master, you sure have a great appetite!”

Then, his smile stiffened slightly.

“That’ll be thirty copper coins.”

“Thirty copper coins? What’s that?” Qu Ruoyan blinked, looking utterly confused.

The vendor’s smile instantly froze.

“You’re not joking, are you, young master?” His expression darkened slightly. “You’re not planning on skipping the bill, are you?”

“Uhh, I only have spirit stones!”

Qu Ruoyan reached into her storage pouch, took out thirty lower-grade spirit stones, and prepared to hand them over to the vendor.

The vendor’s face instantly changed color, his expression going from suspicion to disbelief.

Just as he was about to react, Lin Mo stepped in, pulling thirty copper coins from his storage ring and handing them to the vendor.

He quickly grabbed Qu Ruoyan and dragged her away.

Still curious, Qu Ruoyan asked, “Senior Brother Lin, what did you just give him? Don’t we use spirit stones for transactions?”

Lin Mo flicked her forehead without hesitation.

“Most of the people in Daliang City are ordinary mortals, so they use regular currency for trade. One lower-grade spirit stone is worth a thousand copper coins—you could have bought three hundred and thirty-three buns with that.”

“Ow! Senior Brother, that hurts!”

Qu Ruoyan rubbed her forehead, her eyes wide with shock. She hadn’t realized just how much those buns actually cost.

Lin Mo sighed internally.

This girl had clearly been raised in a sheltered noble family, surrounded only by cultivators.

That was the only explanation for why she had zero knowledge of basic mortal economy.

At that moment, Xie Zhi’an and Xie Zhiqu approached.

“Thank you, Sister!” Xie Zhiqu held a small silver box of rouge, her face filled with joy.

After witnessing Qu Ruoyan’s incident, Lin Mo cautiously turned to Xie Zhi’an.

“How much did you spend?”

Xie Zhi’an, ever calm, answered plainly,

“I traveled frequently with my father back home, so I’m familiar with mortal market prices.”

Hearing this, Lin Mo relaxed and said nothing more.

Among this group, Xie Zhi’an seemed to be the most reliable one.

She even took care of her younger sister, which was genuinely admirable.

Just as Lin Mo was mentally praising Xie Zhi’an’s maturity…

A flirtatious voice interrupted.

“Young master, that rouge is such a lovely color! Is it a gift for your beloved?”

“Oh my, young master, your skin is so fair and delicate. Why don’t you come visit us at Jiangyue Pavilion tonight? We can teach you all sorts of things~”

Xie Zhiqu had attracted the attention of two women, their extravagant makeup and revealing dresses marking them as brothel courtesans.

One of them caressed Xie Zhiqu’s cheek, while the other gently tugged at her hand, their voices dripping with seduction.

“E-Elder Sister…”

Xie Zhiqu’s face turned bright red, her eyes filled with panic as she looked helplessly at Xie Zhi’an.

“Sluts! You dare touch my sister?!”

Xie Zhi’an’s eyes turned bloodshot, and before Lin Mo could react—

She had already drawn her sword.

With a flash of cold steel, she swung at the two ‘seductresses’ without hesitation.

Lin Mo’s eye twitched violently.

I take it back.

She’s not the most reliable at all.

She’s just as much trouble as the others!
